It took my best friend for me to join the half marathon event in the inaugural Putrajaya Night Marathon 2010. Weeks of training resulted in a time of 2 hours,57 minutes and 59 seconds for the 21 km race on Saturday, and it was my first time running in a half marathon.

I think I managed to run a pretty disciplined race, running 15 kilometers non stop before settling for running interspaced with short walks due to my knees locking up. The last stretch was pretty tedious as fatigue was setting in.

The course was actually pretty easy. The nation’s administrative capital of Putrajaya has straight and flat roads with gentle gradients, unlike Kuala Lumpur, but this has to do with it being rather brand new. If you want a taste of what a half marathon has to offer, I can’t think of a better place to start.

Kudos must be given to the organizers for putting up a runner friendly race. Drinks and sponge stations were placed at regularly intervals and there were distance markers for every kilometer.

I had fun during this race, and I’m looking forward for next year’s. Until  then, it’s training, training and more training.
