So a couple of days ago, I decided to give The Ascent a go on the Steam Deck, but the game didn’t run as smooth as I would like so it was back to the PC for the new DLC that was released a few weeks ago, Cyber Heist.

You’ll need to complete the game’s main campaign first in order to gain access to Cyber Heist and its off to get on the transport to a brand new arcology owned by the Malhost-Gelb Group. Now the main game was filled with so much jargon even I had a hard time following, and the DLC is no different.

The main missions in the DLC have you taking on a job to retrieve some sort of advance tech, pitting you against a mercenary-type named Zell. Compared to the main game, the environments in Cyber Heist are narrower, tighter and this I guess is deliberate in order to showcase the DLC’s melee weapons which are now wieldable by the player character. I managed to obtain a katana called the Guillotine and it was satisfying to cut through enemies when it was fully upgraded.

The DLC didn’t take too long to complete, but the final boss battle against Zell was a doozy (his face reminds me of MODOK or Kraang). It took me several attempts to take down Zell, you can watch those attempts and the eventual completion of the fight over here: https://fb.gg/v/fC_q7UIfzH/. I’ve also managed to complete the remaining side quests in the same evening. Nuts.

The Verdict

Cyber Heist scratches the itch if you are looking for new content for The Ascent and then some. The difficulty is up a notch even when in normal mode, so it’s a challenge as well. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
