Indie Game Developer Interview: Pixelshocks

This week, we got so speak with Pixelshocks, the chap responsible for the really beautiful 2D puzzler, 7 Moves, for the iPhone (read the review here). He’s more of a Flash game developer whose work can be found at So without further ado, here’s the interview:

Nine Over Ten 9/10 (9/10): Tell us more about yourselves and how you started developing mobile games?

Pixelshocks (PS): I am a 25-year-old, Singapore-based interactive designer/developer and I deal with a wide variety of digital mediums. Since young, game development has always been my passion because it empowers me to breathe life and intelligence into my creations

For the past few years, I have been developing flash games in my free time and thoroughly enjoyed the process. Somewhere in 2010, Adobe released the Packager for IPhone (now called Air for IOS) and I was already developing 7 Moves, so I decided to take the plunge and make a mobile game!

9/10: What was the idea behind 7 Moves?

PS: As a kid, I used to hop around coloured tiles in the malls and imagine them imbued with magic so dangerous that I should avoid! The concept is simple enough and resonates well with everyone. I decided to on the number “7” because it’s commonly regarded as a lucky number.

9/10: How has the response been to 7 Moves on the iTunes App Store?

PS: Response has been positive and encouraging but app purchases haven’t been high.

9/10: Could you share with us a little on what you’ll be working on next?

PS: I am doing something more experimental and abstract because I am keen to explore various aspect of game design. The game will probably be released on flash first and hopefully be up on various mobile devices soon after.

9/10: What are your view on iOS games piracy and how has that affected you and your fellow developers?

PS: It is something here to stay and as developers, we have to work around it by coming up with creative solutions.

9/10: Any words for aspiring game developers out there?

PS: Life is short, follow your passion. But remember to meet your loved ones too!
