RTS games have evolved quite a fair bit since the base-building, asymmetric warfare affairs of the late 1990s. THQ Nordic and developer Ashborne Games are continuing the evolution of the genre not just from gameplay mechanics but also on the premise of the game with their upcoming title Last Train Home.

The game, set in the aftermath of World War 1, offers a closer look at the perilous path that the Czechoslovak Legion took to flee the aftermath of WWI by way of Siberia in a desperate odyssey towards the distant harbor of Vladivostok and their final chance of survival.

As a commander of the Czechoslovak Legion, you’ll find yourself trapped in the chaos of civil war in the heart of Russia. Aboard an armored train, you must venture into the unforgiving landscape of Siberia and safely bring your men back home.

On this relentless journey, you’ll confront not only the numbing cold, but also the remorseless Red Army. Hunger has become a loyal companion, and the train, a vessel of dwindling hope, sputters on the verge of running dry—fuel that both propels the steel beast and preserves the fragile warmth of your legionary brethren. The fate of these valiant souls is destined by your decisions.

Squads are deployed to complete diverse objectives in real-time missions where specialist combat skills, planning and superior tactics are essential for victory. The soldiers can unlock new skills and assigned better weapons, and the train itself can be further upgraded.

The game looks really promising, and is available to be wish-list on Steam. Check it out over here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1469610/Last_Train_Home/
