Roguelite games have been pretty tough on me, and this maybe due to the lack of patience in understanding the combat mechanics or not wanting to deal with the level of difficulty which is most often set on “HARD”. And while most roguelite games have a fantasy setting, Polish indie-developer Superstatic’s new beautiful deck-builder roguelite, Liberté, opts for history by having the game set during the French Revolution.

Released on Steam today, Liberte features both fast-paced combats and deckbuilder mechanics, zoning in on the war-torn streets of Paris as players take on the role of Rene – a civilian entangled in a massive intrigue between the four most influential factions in the city.

Liberté is no standard re-telling of 18th-century France, however. Setting out to discover the truth behind the city’s cryptic invader from another dimension, Lady Bliss, players will need to mix and match from over 100 Skill and Talents cards to suit their playstyles, nurture alliances with four unique factions, and fight for survival as René engages a world on the brink of annihilation.

Inspired by the real French Revolution events, characters, and architecture, Liberté pulls players into a world on the brink of annihilation replete with body horrors, political maneuvers, and attempted assassinations. Superstatic promises over 40 hours of dialogue to further immerse players in Liberte’s gameplay.
