Halfway through the third quarter of the year and I’m checking out at least one new game (to me at least) and while I’m continuing on several older titles, one existing favourite has just received a new lease of life through a brand new DLC. Curious to find out more? Read on!

Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters

What a mouthful of a title and this is also the Warhammer 40K take on Firaxis’ re-booted XCOM formula. I read about the game being an X-COM title in Warhammer 40K skin and having spent 200 hours in total on both XCOM and XCOM 2, I was hoping for Daemonhunters to scratch an XCOM itch that I had.

Unfortunately, while XCOM’s brand of alien-invasion sci-fi resonated well with me, Daemonhunters is literally soaking in grimdark and I fell asleep during the introductory mission. I’ll need a little bit more time with this game, and considering that I spent RM 154 (the first time I’ve spent on a game after getting Game Pass), I intend to get my money’s worth.

The Ascent: Cyber Heist DLC

One of my favourite isometric shooter/ARPG and all time favourite cyberpunk title, The Ascent, received a new paid DLC titled Cyber Heist and its a doozy. The new DLC lets you travel to a new arcology at the behest of your ex-employer with new main missions and side missions to play for. Along with new locations to explore, there are now melee weapons to use!

The new DLC was released on the 18th of August, and I’ve been livestreaming it on https://www.facebook.com/NineOverTen910. The new locations feel a little tighter/claustrophobic compared to the ones in the original arcology and the enemy pathfinding seems to be a little bit suspect; they’ll just walk past the player character just to get into position and then only start attacking. Weird. On the other hand, a fully upgraded melee weapon, a katana named The Guillotine is just simply a joy to wield. I’m definitely gonna continue playing this game.

Picross S GENESIS & Master System Edition

Picross is hard. Really hard. I recently revisited this title on the Nintendo Switch, and there’s plenty of unfinished business with the game. I’ll let some of the screen do the talking, but some of the puzzles will require quite a fair bit of time, and while there’s a hint roulette, I’m trying my best to avoid using that particular feature.

For a casual game, I’ve come close to ditching my controller especially when it comes to mistakes making themselves known late in a puzzle and I know that I’ve probably have to restart and spend another 20+ minutes working through the puzzle again.
