Overwatch! I’m not referring to the first person shooter from Blizzard, but rather the phase in turn-based XCOM 2 (and the original XCOM) whereby units get to get a reaction shot on enemy units moving into the units’ shooting range. I can’t count how many times being in overwatch saved my team’s bacon, and when coupled with concealment (a gameplay mechanic introduced in XCOM 2 whereby units can move freely when not within the enemy’s detection radius), can make quite a fair bit of difference when starting any mission (when concealment applies).

Having said that, XCOM 2 isn’t an easy game to get into and I feel definitely not for beginners, and this is coming from someone who has finish XCOM Enemy Unknown and its expansion pack, Enemy Within twice over. I bought the game (XCOM 2) at around launch, and prior to getting my PC, I’ve never actually progressed beyond a couple of missions, usually giving up after a few encounters with the Codex.

However, since I gotten the new rig, I thought it would be a good idea to revisit XCOM 2, and while I started out at Rookie difficulty, I’m happy to say that there’s been plenty of progress. The squad of 5 managed to survive the tower of terror known as Shen’s Last Gift and with the help of Spark-001 (as a squad of 6), have gone so far as to skulljacking a Codex, killing an Avatar in a single turn and securing a Psionic Gate to boot. Yes, the motley crew has come quite far. I’m delaying the endgame to get further upgrades.

Next I would probably check out War of the Chosen, I’ve heard nothing but good things about the XCOM 2 expansion pack. In the mean time, for gameplay videos and livestreams, check out Nine Over Ten 9/10 Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/NineOverTen910
