For those not in the know, Model UN or MUN is an academic simulation of the United Nations and participants role-play as diplomats in order to get a better understanding on current affairs, international relations, diplomacy and the UN agenda. Sounds pretty cool right? I want to be Kofi Annan. This leads us to our very interesting app of the week spotlight, it’s Bellwether’s Model UN app for iOS devices.

It’s not a role-playing game (looks like I don’t get to be Kofi Annan anytime soon) but according to the developer, it’s the single best source of easy-to-access information about countries and their backgrounds. Users can quickly access socio-cultural, infrastructure, and geographic data without using an Internet connection.

The app is pretty comprehensive, featuring information taken from the CIA – The World Factbook, and the beauty of it is that you don’t need an Internet connection to go about using this app. There are additional information such as an exhaustive list of NGOs (non-governmental organizations), a World Map, the UN Charter and many more. Features such as the UN News (which is divided by region and topics) will, on the other hand, require an Internet connection.

Model UN by Bellwether is available free of charge on the iTunes App Store. Check it out over here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/model-un/id359229470?mt=8 and start impressing your friends 🙂
