I really like innovative stuff on the iPhone, especially in the midst of things that are done to death on the platform. So, when the words physics, tilt, and labyrinth started jumping off a press release I was reading, I knew I had to forget about putting up the press release, and get into reviewing the game like immediately.
So here we are now on the review of Amazed, a new game by Mexico-based Shifting Minds. The premise of the game is really simple, guide the ball through a labyrinth (maze) to the designated end-point. Here’s the fun part, you’ll have to tilt your iPhone left, right, up or down to get the ball moving in the direction you want!
The game’s physics engine handles the movement of the ball, and well, all I can say is that the results are really impressive.
There are 30+ mazes to navigate through, and the cool thing here is that each level is randomly generated in 3D and they get really big as the levels progress. With a 99 cents price tag and unlimited replayability and cool controls, how much greater can the game get?
But, there are some ways to improve on the game. For starters, the ball could have some rolling animation, and secondly, the game is largely…silent. If that’s the case, the ability to play songs from my iTunes playlist would certainly be nice.
But these two gripes aside, Amazed is pretty…amazing (pun totally intended). Check out the game at the App Store today, click here for details.
I planted a tree today. Well, I actually carried a small tree up Gasing Hill (Bukit Gasing) and placed it in one of the holes dug up by volunteers in a tree re-planting exercise organized by the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ).
The replanting exercise is done to replace trees lost in a fire in this forest reserve earlier this year. I was actually there (its a favourite hiking haunt for my girlfriend and I) when we saw the smouldering trees. The new tree that we planted this morning was placed at the peak (by yours truly), a short hike from the observation tower.
In any case, the replanting exercise will continue this October 10th (my birthday btw, I accept PSPGo and Xbox 360 consoles and even the Fallout 3 GOTY edition for the Sony PS3), and the aim here is to get 350 trees planted. So go on and land a hand.

I was driving along the highway when I saw a billboard advertisement featuring something like an obese version of the Super Mario Galaxy’s Luma. I don’t know about you, but I certainly feel that way whenever I see the mascot for Nippon Paint. Check the previous post to see how Luma looks like.

Green Lantern #46 takes a surprising turn and gives Sinestro (of all people), a whole new level of depth that I didn’t think he would have. Here he is actually shown to be a leader who actually cares for his fellow corpsmen and the people of his home sector.
He even takes up the mantle of bringing the fight to the Black Lanterns as this issue sees the start of an unlikely alliance between Hal Jordan (Green Lantern), Carol Fenris (Star Sapphire), Indigo-1 (Indigo Tribe) and the Sinestro Corps; and not before pwning Mongul in the process.
The issue ends with Sinestro meeting an old friend, the one who discovered the Blackest Night prophecy in the first place, along with an old flame. Fun times ahead in future issues of Sinestro, I mean, Green Lantern.

I recently finished Flower on the PS3, and netted four trophies in the process. One of the trophies that I’ve yet to obtained involved not playing the game for a week. How’s that for a reward?
In any case, Flower is a downright beautiful game, and the ending is rather epic for such a simple (did I mention pretty as well) game. One way to describe its metaphorical style would be the game expounds the light that comes after the darkness, or the silver lining in every cloud.
Having completed Flower (but I’m planning to revisit it, for the trophies), I purchased Age of Booty a couple of nights ago. I’ve been wanting to try this game since reading about it somewhere and so far this pirate-themed RTS hasn’t disappoint.
Talking bout downloadable content on the PS3, I’m beginning to wonder on when are we going to see the Fallout 3 DLCs made available for us Asian region gamers. Or maybe I should just wait for the GOTY edition which comes with all the DLCs and the original game.
My birthday is coming up on the 10th, so I could use the game, or a brand new PSPgo. Hint hint 🙂
Hmm. One would think what a shotgun-toting granny would be doing walking around a farm in her nightie and rollers in her hair. Wait, a shotgun?
If the granny was Elmer Fudd, she’ll go: “Shh…I’m hunting some U-FOEesss”
This is practically the premise of ClockRocket’s Shotgun Granny for the iPhone, with the addition of granny being a little potty-mouthed. And when compared to old retro games (which I like to do), Shotgun Granny is a modern day Space Invaders with a twist.
You move ol’ Granny left or right at the bottom of the screen, and tap the area above her head to shoot in that general direction. Unlike the little spaceship that could in Space Invaders, Granny only has a finite number of shotgun shells.
Fortunately, shot UFOs drop shotgun pellets and this adds a layer of strategy to the game where players will try and shoot more than UFO with a single shot since they yield more “bang” per “buck” shot.
Graphics wise, the game is presented in 2D, in a clean and functional way that doesn’t get in the way of shooting down UFOs.
I didn’t really pay attention to the sound since I didn’t have a pair of headphones on reviewing the game, but if you are concerned about Granny’s potty mouth, you don’t need to turn up the volume to play the game.
There’s the high score, and there’s also the Online Leaderboard provided by the OpenFeint service. And yes, with OpenFeint, the term “Achievement Unlocked” is no longer limited to the Xbox 360 with a total of 28 achievements to earn.
I’m currently rankend 45 on the list with just 231 points. To put things into perspective, the highest score in the list is in excess of 20000+.
At 99 cents, Shotgun Granny is pretty much a bargain shmup with some surprises thrown in. The online leaderboard and achievements are a boon that should be included in every game. Click here to purchase and download the game at the App Store.
