I once heard an economist say pay attention on the macros (macroeconomic conditions) as they’ll affect the micros (microeconomic conditions). Taking into consideration the conflict in Europe, reduction in “free-money” (e.g. subsidies, handouts) in a Covid endemic phase, rising inflation, ballooning oil prices and stock markets entering bear territory (taking crypto along with them), one boon (and some might say a strange one) we see out of this is GPU prices are heading downwards with some even reaching lower than MSRP. Basically gone are the days where you’ll have to cough out USD 900 for a RTX 3060.

If you’ve been holding out for the past 2 years and you are concerned by the power draw that the next generation of GPUs (here’s looking at you RTX 4000-series) will apparently demand, then it’s time to scratch that itch and get that graphics card that you’ve been waiting for. In the case of Malaysia, GPU partner manufacturers such as Asus, Colorful, EVGA, Galax, Palit and Zotac have all announced price cuts and promotions across the board, from flagship 3090 units all the way down to the newer 3050s. Some have even gone to the extent of bundling gaming monitors with the GPUs.

How Did I Come Up With The List?

Do keep in mind that I didn’t separate the pricing based on individual models, and have instead listed them as a range. Each manufacturer partner would have several cards for a specific GPU (hence the price range), and most of the time the variations would be on the number of fans and whether the card is factory-overclocked.

Do also stick around for my recommendations at the bottom of the article and a pro-tip on where to get GPUs at even lower prices.

Asus

Being virtually one of the manufacturers with higher price points in the market, Asus announced new starting prices for a range of GeForce GPUs:

  • GeForce RTX 3050 – Starting from RM 1,500
  • GeForce RTX 3060 – Starting from RM 1,750
  • GeForce RTX 3060 Ti – Starting from RM 2,300
  • GeForce RTX 3070 – Starting from RM 3,000
  • GeForce RTX 3070 Ti – Starting from RM 3,400
  • GeForce RTX 3080 12G – Starting from RM 5,300
  • GeForce RTX 3080 Ti – Starting from RM 6,500
  • GeForce RTX 3090 – Starting from RM 8,350

Colorful

I actually considered getting a Colorful RTX card at some point but previously retailers only wanted to sell GPUs bundled with CPU purchases due to stock scarcity, but I guess with supplies now on the rebound, you wouldn’t have a problem buying them.

  • GeForce RTX 3050 – Starting from RM 1,359 – RM 1,539
  • GeForce RTX 3060 – Starting from RM 1,699 – 1,919
  • GeForce RTX 3060 Ti – Starting from RM 2,659
  • GeForce RTX 3070 – Starting from RM 2,859
  • GeForce RTX 3070 Ti – Starting from RM 3,559
  • GeForce RTX 3080 10G – Starting from RM 3,759

EVGA

EVGA announced their price knockdowns back in March, and I must admit that their FTW cards look really cool.

  • GeForce RTX 3060 – Starting from RM 1,969
  • GeForce RTX 3060 Ti – Starting from RM 2,459 – RM 2,549
  • GeForce RTX 3070 – Starting from RM 2,999 – RM 3,229
  • GeForce RTX 3070 Ti – Starting from RM 3,699 – RM 3,999
  • GeForce RTX 3080 – Starting from RM 4,239 – RM 4,449
  • GeForce RTX 3080 Ti – Starting from RM 6,549 – RM 7,069
  • GeForce RTX 3090 – Starting from RM 8,599 – RM 9,599

Galax

Galax has some pretty crazy looking RTX GPUs (just look at the 3090 Ti HOF), but in the local market they have a particular model at a special price valid till 8th July 2022

  • GeForce RTX 3070 LHR (1-Click OC Feature) RM 2,899 RM 2,499 <- This is a special offer though, valid up till 8th July 2022

Palit

I’ve a Palit RTX 3050 GPU sitting inside Orange Crush but I don’t think the specific model is no longer on sale in Malaysia. In any case, Palit’s prices are pretty cool across the board:

  • GeForce RTX 3050 – Starting from RM 1,489 – RM 1,639
  • GeForce RTX 3060 – Starting from RM 1,799
  • GeForce RTX 3060 Ti – Starting from RM 2,329
  • GeForce RTX 3070 Ti – Starting from RM 3,199
  • GeForce RTX 3080 – Starting from RM 3,669 – RM 3,959
  • GeForce RTX 3080 12G – Starting from RM 4,089 – RM 4,199
  • GeForce RTX 3080 Ti – Starting from RM 4,499 – RM 4,799

Zotac

The folks at Zotac have been disrupting GPU pricing by creating one-day events (more likely to mock the terrible Swatch X Omega launch) at both Lowyat Plaza and Digital Mall PJ to sell some of their models at special prices. Their revised pricing for their RTX cards were announced mid-June.

  • GeForce RTX 3050 – Starting from RM 1,479 – RM 1,559
  • GeForce RTX 3060 – Starting from RM 1,799 – RM 2,039
  • GeForce RTX 3060 Ti – Starting from RM 2,369 – RM 2,489
  • GeForce RTX 3070 Ti – Starting from RM 3,149

Recommendations

A price guide wouldn’t be complete with recommendations. My main rule of thumb is to first set a budget and then get the best you can purchase within that budget. The 3060 Ti seems to be a sweet spot for 1080p and1440p gaming and it’s actually based off the 3070. If your budget permits, heading up to the 3070 will bring you into the realm of solid 1440p and 4K gaming. Personally I would not spend more than RM 3,000 for a 3070.

Other factors that will affect your purchase decisions would be what you are running with at the moment. A poor CPU like a 1600X or anything pre-9th generation Intel would be a poor pairing. Case size is important as well, do take note on your case’s dimensions including whatever else you have inside your case. You wouldn’t want to get a 2.75-slot height card that won’t fit.

Where To Get Even Cheaper Graphics Cards?

Honestly, if you are the type that doesn’t care so much about RMA, Amazon is a very viable option for GPU bargains. Here are a couple of listings:

  • EVGA GeForce RTX 3050 XC Gaming – USD 330 + USD 40 shipping ~ RM 1,600 – Link here
  • GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3060 Eagle OC 12G – USD 399 + USD 43 shipping ~ RM 1,953 – Link here
  • GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3070 Vision OC 8G – USD 599 + USD 64 shipping ~ RM 2,922 – Link here

Where Are The AMD Cards?

Funny thing about AMD is that I don’t see any pricing changes on the local front, but I guess they are resisting lowering their prices by instead introducing their AMD Radeon Raise the Game Bundle Offer where you get up to three games when you purchase an AMD Radeon RX 6000 series graphics card. Come on guys, get with the programme.
