Being stuck at home during a pandemic’s movement control order (our third one, as I write), is a good opportunity to revisit some games and to try out games that I’ve missed. For one, I’ve spent about 180+ hours on Fallout 4 since last July. The reason for such the large amount of hours? Unlike the PS4 version which I’ve finished years back, I bought all of the DLCs for PC version, and as of May 2021, I’ve gone through Automatron, Nuka-World, Vault-Tec Workshop and Far Harbor.

Far Harbor is the best of the lot, with a compelling story and an interesting, almost survival-horror kind of environment, with the Fog and all manner of strange creatures that lurk within. The last time I owned a PC, it was so slow that it couldn’t load games that I wanted to play; many of which were real-time strategy titles.

So the recent couple of games that I bought after finishing Fallout 4 were Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 and Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition. The former turned out to be an enjoyable romp, with George Takei pulling all stops as the Emperor of the Empire of the Rising Sun. The game had interesting missions with the campy cutscenes to boot and a strong emphasis on naval units. However, I felt that the aerial units were a little nerfed.

When Age of Empires III came out back in 2005, the game ran so slowly on my machine that I had time to make coffee. A year later I switched over to console gaming with the PS3. The Definitive Edition of AoE III was released just last year, and it comes with a new coat of paint and some quality of life improvements. Truth be told, I prefer this instead of AoE II: Definitive Edition which is an overwhelming critical and fan favourite.

So what older games I’m going to check out once I’m done with these two titles?
