For a 10-year old game, StarCraft 2 is pretty long-lived, with even updates in its 10th year. So when Blizzard announced a couple of days ago that development for the game will cease and instead the team will focus on supporting game ala the original Brood War (with season rolls and balance fixes), I was pretty OK. Do you know why? SC2 to me is feature-complete.

I’ve got everything I need from the game. Sci-fi epic with asymmetrical factions, and somewhat balanced gameplay? Check! Fast-flowing gameplay with a variety of game modes? Check! Support for a turtling-style of play? Check!

The awesome single player campaigns are a masterclass among RTS games, and I’ve actually played through them several times. I’m looking forward to playing them again thanks to the new achievements introduced in the 10th Anniversary update.

The Arcade mode has tons of really interesting player creations, which among them is my all time favourite Left 2 Die.

One of my recent forays in SC2 involves be exploring cool multiplayer maps in Melee mode. I don’t usually like playing with other players, and would prefer playing against bots, which I’ve been upping the difficulty level.

I use Terrans most of the time and one of my favorite tactics so far would be to warp a whole bunch of them using Tactical Jump and decimating any enemy unit/structure with judicious application of the Yamato Cannon. So satisfying. Having battlecruisers gatecrashing the front door of an enemy base is another alternative as well.

I won’t miss updates to the game, but I’ll definitely be playing the game for a long time more. It just ticks all the right boxes. Development for StarCraft 2 is dead (hopefully they are working on SC3), long live StarCraft 2!
