September 2020 can be remembered as one of the more productive months gaming-wise, as I’ve managed to complete not one, but two PC games. First up was Halo: Reach, which the effort was covered in my previous post here.

XCOM 2 Big Bad that does not die easy
The stuff of nightmares in XCOM 2

The second title was XCOM 2. It was really satisfying taking the fight to the aliens and laying waste to their underwater base. The final level was an unrelenting assault and I was worried that the team wouldn’t make it out alive. Check out the live stream of that level over here.

Pretty exciting stuff this week, with brand new releases on the Nintendo Switch and on the PC. I started the week however playing the previously released Battletech for the first time, and boy was the game difficult.

Honestly, I was not prepared for the difficulty level in combat…

I couldn’t even get by one of the earlier missions. Imagine getting your mechs softened up by a bunch of vehicles (e.g. Strikers), before a bunch of enemy mechs deliver the coup-de-grace. I’ve not played anything that difficult since the first Mechcommander game. Check out how badly I fared over here.

On the Nintendo Switch I purchased Hades. The rogue-lite title is out on the PC as well (which I just live-streamed over here:) and it has been an interesting experience. I had the Switch version for longer but in the PC version, I’ve progressed way forward.

Hades

I guess there are some advantages playing with a keyboard-and-mouse combo, or maybe I just lucked out with the boons that the game was doling out. This game is fast becoming the break-out hit of 2020.

Last but not least, Halo 3: ODST dropped this week for the PC version of Halo: MCE. I finished Halo: Reach the week before and had just started Halo 2 before ODST dropped.
