Appy is going the Freemium path and will no longer offer “lite” versions of its games on the iTunes App Store. It first started when Appy released FaceFighter Ultimate, the replacement for FaceFighter Lite. Now, it’s time for Appy’s ahem, manly, physics-based puzzler, and all time Nine Over Ten 9/10 favourite, Trucks & Skulls NITRO for the iPhone and it will cost nothing until the end of days/ the Age of Aquarius /Mayan Apocalypse, whichever comes first.

This comes on the back of research indicating that Freemium games beat Premium games (games that are paid up front) when it comes to generating revenue. So rather than have just stripped-down versions of games hanging around (hence “Lite”), might as well put up something that offers in-app purchases and earn moolah when players feel engaged enough to buy stuff. Pure…WIN!

In celebration of  Trucks & Skulls NITRO going Freemium, Trucks & Skulls NITRO HD for the iPad will be FREE for a limited time, this weekend only, starting from today. If you already have Trucks & Skulls NITRO for the iPhone, here’s one reason to get the iPad version, it comes with the iPad-exclusive Level Editor!

Check out how things progressed with Appy on this Freemium path:

June 16 – Appy releases Trucks & Skulls NITRO, which includes an in-app store. The app itself costs $0.99

June 29 – Appy announces that Trucks & Skulls NITRO will be free during Independence Day. Downloads are massive – up 5,000 percent from the usual numbers

August 11 – Appy releases FaceFighter Ultimate, the replacement to FaceFighter Lite. FF Ultimate is free and it also includes an in-app store similar to the one in Trucks & Skulls

August 18 – Trucks & Skulls NITRO for iPhone goes free on a permanent basis. This marks the end of the Lite Era for Appy
