The last time I played an ice hockey game, it was a NHL game for the PC, and ever since then I’ve not one since, until I got my hands on NaturalMotion Games’ Icebreaker Hockey. And to quote the proverbial (albeit modern, and borrowed from another sport) saying, I LOVE THIS GAME. The game basically puts you in control of a single ice hockey player, of a team of your choice, versus a bunch of AI players in two sets of gameplay modes.

The Challenge mode has 50 original waves divided into 10 ever increasing in difficulty challenges. Some of the challenges introduce different gameplay elements (such as stops) that ultimately is used in the Endurance mode, which seeks to test the players’ skills and stamina in a non-stop sequence of ever tougher waves.

What I really like about Icebreaker Hockey is how the game puts an excellent set of controls (which are akin to that of a pinball game) together with amazing gameplay and absolutely beautiful graphics. The challenges represent short-bursts of gameplay that suit commute-friendly gameplay with enough to challenge even the most hardcore players. Progressing through the game unlocks more stuff such as more teams and more challenges.
