I’ve been in Jakarta for the past two days on a business trip and every time I get here, this metropolis never ceases to amaze me. The sights, sounds and smell are a heady mix, while not necessarily good, Jakarta is really something. And don’t forget the traffic. Even getting to the airport can be a hassle and late travellers cutting queues at the immigration counter are a common sight.

Speaking about traffic, there’s a particular iPhone game that has been occupying my time during my short stay here, and it’s called Traffic Panic. I’m not sure whether is it a trend but lately I’ve been seeing plenty of iOS games that can be played with just one hand, or in most cases, a single finger tap. Traffic Panic is one of those games, and as a result very easy to play.

Don’t let the “Burnout” like intro screen fool you, the objective of the game is pretty simple, players are put in charge of controlling the traffic light on one point of entry in a busy intersection. With a single tap, players can either change the light to red or green, making traffic from their point of entry to stop or go with the objective of not letting any accidents happen.

Depending on how well a player does, he or she is awarded coins and these coins can be used to open up new levels, hence, even crazier intersections. But wait a minute, coins? Yup, as you have probably have guessed it, Traffic Panic is a free-to-play title. Players can cut through the chase and open up new levels buy doing in-app purchases for additional coins.

I know I’ve been a little hard previously on a free-to-play title that featured both ads and coins, but in Traffic Panic, the ads seem to be less of a distraction, but hey your mileage might vary. My advice to the developer Neon Play Ltd will still be the same though, drop the ads, keep the in-app purchases.

Nine Over Ten 9/10 awards Traffic Panic with a 3.5/5 rating. Do check it out.

Traffic Panic is available free of charge on the iTunes App Store. Check it out over here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/traffic-panic/id413633063?mt=8

Update: I’ve just touched down in Malaysia, and upon checking my email, the Neon Play guys (fast chaps these guys) mentioned that the ads go away once you do an in-app purchase! And here’s an exclusive you won’t get anywhere else: there’s a big update coming in featuring in-game powerups!
