Alec Mason is probably the only video game character I know who can run at full speed while wielding a sledgehammer. I mean, that thing has got to be heavy since it makes Alec a one man demolition army. Some may argue that the lower gravity on Mars might have something to do with that, but man, can that Red Faction guy run. Run Alec Run!

Bayonetta on the other hand comes armed, and may I say, legged to the tilt with not one, not two, but four pistols, called the Scarborough Fair. Incidentally, several years before Bayonetta, I used to develop CRM software and I often used the name “Scarborough Fair” as a code name of sorts for lead sources.

If you were to take a look at the genre on the Bayonetta cover, you’ll find the game listed as “Climax Action“… Maybe it has to do with all the noise that witch makes when she’s beating the heck out of angels.

Isaac Clarke has probably the most outrageous outfit among the three video game characters featured here. He kinda reminds me of the superhero/supervillain Penance from Marvel Comics. Anyways, his Plasma Cutter has the distinction of being your best friend in Dead Space. It’s upgradeable and despite the plethora of other weapons, you can finish the game using that weapon alone (that’s why the game has a trophy for that).

All three games figure heavily on my playlist but there’s more emphasis on Red Faction. I don’t know but demolishing buildings and whacking on-screen enemies with a sledgehammer is just tops in my book.
