Just when I thought when would the next Humble Bundle would come out (yes, I’m that cheapskate sometimes when it comes to filling up my games library), an email came in earlier this morning while I was sleeping, stating that The Humble Indie Bundle 8 is now available for purchase! The folks over at Russian indie-game developer Space Bear Studio are working on a brand new iOS game scheduled to be released this summer. Titled Tactical Clash, it looks to be inspired by the likes of Jagged Alliance and X-com. In Tactical Clash, players will romp around colourful levels using classic turn-based mechanics to destroy all enemy soldiers and at the same time rescue the hostages.

Tactical Clash will have more than 30 missions when it’s released this summer, along with synchronous PvP. The game will initially feature 5 unit classes at launch, but the developers are aiming to release new unit classes every month. Excited? Thank you so much Geoff Johns, for what you’ve done for the Green Lantern franchise. Green Lantern #20 marks the finale of pretty epic Wrath of the First Lantern story arc as well as Mr. Johns’ illustrious 9-year run with the character. The book itself is over-sized, necessary to give everyone some page time (you get to see some obscure Lanterns here as well). The First Lantern, despite his God-like powers is taken down by a Hal Jordan resurgent but the Guardians get taken out.

The best part of the book however deals with what happens a few years down the line, I won’t spoil anything though so you have to get the book. 5 out of 5.

The Bat-books don’t seem to be terribly interesting this week, save for Batman Incorporated #11, featuring the Batman of Japan along with his sidekick/lover(?) Canary. There’s quite a bit of influence from Japanese Tokusatsu, specifically the Kamen Rider series and lucha libre. The art is pretty awesome in this book, illustrated by Jorge Lucas and the story is a quirky one, featuring an enemy gang clearly inspired by the Power Rangers. I just wish the other international Batmans are as cool as this one. 4.5 out of 5.

Doc Ock is finally rid of Peter Parker in the subconscious portion of his brain, and that obviously leaves the former villain liberated and living the life. But with him picking and choosing his battles and focusing on the big picture, one of Spider-man’s major arch-enemies has been slowly gathering his forces for what looks to be an awesome show-down in the next issue. The Superior Spider-Man #10 gets a  4.5 out of 5.

Fans of ClutchPlay Games’ action-based platformer game Little Chomp (iOS, Android) have plenty to cheer about with the release of Chompwood Arcade, an update to the game that brings about a brand new continuous play mode. Little Chomp’s latest update tasks players with climbing their way up three new leaderboards where they race the clock to stay alive for the highest score in the Chompwood Kingdom.

Honored recently as an Official Selection of the PAX East Indie Showcase, Little Chomp is one part classic platformer and one part physics puzzler that challenges players with braving three unique worlds in a quest to chomp the tastiest fruit and collect the rarest butterflies. Phew, back from a long hiatus, thanks to a particularly intensive PMP course. Anyways, back to the business of gaming. Disney Mobile Games has released an update to their smash, or should I say, splash hit Where’s My Perry?. This time along, the beloved Animal Agents from the TV Series join Agent P in 60+ new levels to help fight Dr. Doofenshmirtz and his army of Evil Objects.

Players will need to tangle with new obstacles to solve puzzles, such as “Dirt-splosions” that create patches of dirt out of thin air and Dr. Doofenshmirtz’ s most powerful “-inator” yet, the “Turf-inator”! Players will also be entertained by hilarious new animated sequences featuring the familiar faces of the Peter the Panda, Pinky the Chihuahua and other Animal Agents.

Developer i-Free has just released their latest casual racing title, Jelly Racing, for both Android and iOS platforms. The game features two game modes, party play and single player in which players swipe their jellies along the track and flick them over obstacles for a high score and try and reach the finish line in the minimum number of turns.

Billed as a turn-based racing game, each of the four jellies available to the players have their own distinctive character, thus adding an additional layer of strategy to the game. Each track has its own set of turns, obstacles and power-ups and the game has 40 of them spread across 4 different planets in the Jelly galaxy. I got wind of a new Counter-Strike: Global Offensive update early Sunday morning, and after pacifying my daughter, I decided to update the game via Steam and started playing it to see what’s new. To my pleasant surprise, additional maps were made available for play including one that piqued my interest, Seaside.

Now, this is a Workshop map and it was pretty well built. Playing as CT, it was a challenge as there’s plenty of uphill segments. Playing on the Terrorist side was interesting as well, the choke points on the way to Bomb Site B made for very interesting grenade lobbing action. At one point, I made a “Hail Mary” throw of a flashbang and even though it was a gamble, I ended up with obtaining the achievement “The Road to Hell”.

This achievement is obtained when you blind an enemy player who then proceeds to kill his teammate. I suppose you can have better luck gambling on mobile casinos, but is pretty much who dares wins whether is it on a Counter-Strike map or on a poker table. Pretty ballsy action ensued when playing as CT, having obtained the “Second to None” achievement as well, after managing to defuse a bomb with less than a second before it exploded. My team was behind at the time, and that allowed us to draw level.

The story of the alley cat out to woo the high-society kitty-cat is one that has been played-out countless of times on the TV screen, with each of the protagonist alley cat facing varying degrees of success. There was a also a crazy skunk masquerading as a cat, out to get some fine feline booty, smelly as he is. Anyways, Disney Mobile Games latest iOS title, Mittens, has the titular alley cat out on a mission to win the heart of up-town-kitty cat Mia, and to do that, he has to subject himself to the law of physics, and then some.

Players will need to make use of phone lines, building antennas, trampolines… basically all the crazy stuff you see the TV cats go through on Saturday morning cartoons in order to get Mittens to Mia and to collect stuff such as milk, diamonds, and balloons to win that feline’s heart. Now, if only things were that straightforward, there are angry chefs and deckhands lying in wait to give Mittens a taste of a frying pan or something worse.

Fortunately for Mittens and players, there’s a handy cutting motion to get rid of obstacles or to drop said obstacles onto those meanies trying to keep the two love-birds, I mean love-cats apart. There’s a time-based element to the gameplay as well, not so much in completing a level in a certain time, but to time when exactly Mittens can jump or when to drop an obstacle as failing to do so will cause Mittens to either get smacked, burnt or leap out of the level (but not break the fourth wall…LOL, but it’s game over nevertheless).

For a casual game, Mittens looks amazing and comes with really cute and colourful 2D graphics. There are 75+ levels with 3 level packs. There’s an additional level pack available as an IAP for USD 0.99. Fun and entertaining, and packed with short bursts of gameplay that would appeal to any kind of gamer (from casual players out for some fun to completists who would want to collect everything), Mittens gets a 4.5 out of 5 from us at Nineoverten.com

I actually played the iPhone version on my iPad and found the larger screen to be of benefit (you tend to notice more stuff, especially at 2X mode).
