Long time readers would know that I absolutely loved inFAMOUS on the PS3. What’s not to like when you progress from being a wannabe with electrical powers to becoming a bonafide superhero (by the end of the game) capable of bringing down a lightning storm. So it’s only natural that I’m harping for an inFAMOUS 2 and E3 (along with Sony and Sucker Punch) didn’t disappoint as more details were revealed about the sequel, including a trailer.
There are several notable changes, especially with Cole’s character model and voice. The grim, bald, gravel-voiced protagonist is still the same guy in inFAMOUS 2 except that he sounds more positive, has hair, and looks….metrosexual. Talk about an understatement eh? It’s like a 360 change but time will tell whether this is for the better or worse.
Taking a break from all the PS3 loving, more screenshots of Civilization 5 were released. This maybe my single reason to get back to playing games on the PC. Just take a look at the screenshot below; it’s just gorgeous!
These new Bioshock 2 Action Figures from Neca look to be pretty cool. There are even a pair of Little Sisters which in my book look like creepy little things from Children of the Corn:
The 2nd day of E3 2010′s coverage didn’t yield much items of interest, except that Gran Turismo 5 finally gets dated with the release date being set for November 2 and like Killzone 3, it will be in 3D. Also announced is the premium subscription to the PSN, called PlayStation Plus which for USD 49.99 a year, offers additional content, early demo access and discounts on certain items within the PlayStation Store.
The first portal was a crazy game which well, unlike the hordes of fans out there, I didn’t share the same sentiment (I didn’t like the game). But in anycase, Portal 2 was announced for the PS3(!) and a trailer was released too! The antagonist sounds two levels down from that crazy Shodan AI from System Shock 2….creepy:
THQ and Relic supplied probably the coolest trailer of the day, in the form of Warhammer 40000: Space Marine. It’s a 3rd person action-RPG game coming for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. Check out some Orc-bashing in the game’s first ever trailer, below:
Despite being my favourite, I always thought that playing open-world games require a certain state of mind. Games like GTA and inFamous can get pretty overwhelming with the player being spammed with too much info via the sights and sounds of their respective game’s cities. On the other hand, the start of Fallout 3 can be pretty boring and I found Morrowind to be a sleepfest.
Having said all that, the flavour of the month (well months) for me has to be action games and I think I’ve achieved a record by actually finishing games from a genre that I was previously adverse to on the PS2. Within these few months, I’ve finished God of War III, Batman Arkham Asylum and almost every DLC for The Force Unleashed (Ultimate Sith Edition). During the same period, I only finished a single open-world game: Red Faction Guerrilla.
The whole experience is like getting reacquainted with the double jump button, which I still am apparently, after dying 5 times on the Roof of Athens level in the recently acquired God of War collection. It can be summed up as fun and frustration in a tightly woven package. For now, I’ll just leave my new copy of Red Dead Redemption lying at one corner while I satiate my bloodlust on GOW Collection.
Looks like a trailer fest for this year’s E3 and it’s fun because one of my favourite games on the PS3, Red Faction Guerrilla is getting a sequel, Red Faction Armageddon which is set for a March 2011 release. In Armageddon, the Mars that you worked so hard in prying from the cold dead hands of the EDF is now in ruins and the fighting goes sub-terranean. Check out the trailer below:
Check this out, it’s the new (and official) Transformers: War for Cybertron E3 2010 trailer and it features some voice overs by Optimus Prime and Megatron, along with some big-bot action in the form of everyone’s favourite gigantic T-Rex, Trypticon. Watch it now below:
Have you checked out the new teaser trailer for Killzone 3? There’s nothing revealed about the gameplay, just two Helghans beating the shit out of each other, probably to decide on who looks more badass in a Helghan helmet. Check it out over here:
I know that some of you really dislike the English dub on Final Fantasy XIII and would really love to have the original Japanese voice-acting maintained with English subtitles. Well, while previously this wasn’t available, now you have the option to get the Final Fantasy XIII (Chinese + English language version) which preserves the Jap voice acting while providing both English AND Chinese (Simplified and Traditional) subtitles!
This new edition comes in 2 different packages. You can opt to buy the game alone, or as part of the Final Fantasy XIII (English + Chinese Language Version) – Lightning Edition Deluxe Pack which comes with a heck lot of stuff for its price tag of USD 114.90. The Deluxe Pack includes a Special Soundtrack CD (with 10 tracks), Illustration Book, Poster, Premium HDMI Cable, one DualShock 3 (Lightning Edition), one PSN card for Avatar download and the game itself!

This garish looking amalgamation of plastic and rubber is still probably the cheapest Racing Wheel I’ve seen that comes with pedals AND stick shift! Produced by Gammac of South Korea, the Real Drift Racing Wheel has plenty going for it at its selling price of USD 54. Just check out the specs: vibration feedback, automatic centering system, left mini analog stick and PS button, wheel-mounted shifter, suction cups, fully rubberized wheel, and it’s compatible with the PS3, PS2 and the PC! I finally finished Batman: Arkham Asylum on the PS3. Total game time wasn’t that long but due to work commitments and other stuff, I ended up playing bits of the game from the 17th of May right up to completion on the 27th of May. One thing I found to be pretty fun while playing the game are The Riddler’s Challenges. So far I’ve solved 75% of them without even looking at a guide. Not bad eh?
In any case, what’s next for me? While I didn’t buy Red Dead Redemption, I got myself a copy of 3D Dot Game Heroes, Region 1 and brand new for a discounted price of just RM125! I suppose the game is not selling as hot cakes over here but I’m looking forward to playing the game over the weekend. I’ve got also Dragon Age Origins and BioShock for company as well. Heh! What about dear reader? Watcha playing this long weekend?
