Phew, back from a long hiatus, thanks to a particularly intensive PMP course. Anyways, back to the business of gaming. Disney Mobile Games has released an update to their smash, or should I say, splash hit Where’s My Perry?. This time along, the beloved Animal Agents from the TV Series join Agent P in 60+ new levels to help fight Dr. Doofenshmirtz and his army of Evil Objects.

Players will need to tangle with new obstacles to solve puzzles, such as “Dirt-splosions” that create patches of dirt out of thin air and Dr. Doofenshmirtz’ s most powerful “-inator” yet, the “Turf-inator”! Players will also be entertained by hilarious new animated sequences featuring the familiar faces of the Peter the Panda, Pinky the Chihuahua and other Animal Agents.

Developer i-Free has just released their latest casual racing title, Jelly Racing, for both Android and iOS platforms. The game features two game modes, party play and single player in which players swipe their jellies along the track and flick them over obstacles for a high score and try and reach the finish line in the minimum number of turns.

Billed as a turn-based racing game, each of the four jellies available to the players have their own distinctive character, thus adding an additional layer of strategy to the game. Each track has its own set of turns, obstacles and power-ups and the game has 40 of them spread across 4 different planets in the Jelly galaxy. The story of the alley cat out to woo the high-society kitty-cat is one that has been played-out countless of times on the TV screen, with each of the protagonist alley cat facing varying degrees of success. There was a also a crazy skunk masquerading as a cat, out to get some fine feline booty, smelly as he is. Anyways, Disney Mobile Games latest iOS title, Mittens, has the titular alley cat out on a mission to win the heart of up-town-kitty cat Mia, and to do that, he has to subject himself to the law of physics, and then some.

Players will need to make use of phone lines, building antennas, trampolines… basically all the crazy stuff you see the TV cats go through on Saturday morning cartoons in order to get Mittens to Mia and to collect stuff such as milk, diamonds, and balloons to win that feline’s heart. Now, if only things were that straightforward, there are angry chefs and deckhands lying in wait to give Mittens a taste of a frying pan or something worse.

Fortunately for Mittens and players, there’s a handy cutting motion to get rid of obstacles or to drop said obstacles onto those meanies trying to keep the two love-birds, I mean love-cats apart. There’s a time-based element to the gameplay as well, not so much in completing a level in a certain time, but to time when exactly Mittens can jump or when to drop an obstacle as failing to do so will cause Mittens to either get smacked, burnt or leap out of the level (but not break the fourth wall…LOL, but it’s game over nevertheless).

For a casual game, Mittens looks amazing and comes with really cute and colourful 2D graphics. There are 75+ levels with 3 level packs. There’s an additional level pack available as an IAP for USD 0.99. Fun and entertaining, and packed with short bursts of gameplay that would appeal to any kind of gamer (from casual players out for some fun to completists who would want to collect everything), Mittens gets a 4.5 out of 5 from us at Nineoverten.com

I actually played the iPhone version on my iPad and found the larger screen to be of benefit (you tend to notice more stuff, especially at 2X mode). Now if Thomas Gruber’s Electronics Engineering Toolkit Pro for iPad app was released years ago, it would have probably made life easy in my Living Skills class at school. Anyways, this app, aimed at hobbyist, students and engineers features a massive collection of useful calculators, simulators, circuit and application examples, covering a wide gamut of areas in electronics engineering.

The app features 65 electronic applications, huge reference pages covering connectors, components (including 7400 series, PIC family, etc) with the option of opening PDF datasheets, fast-on-the-fly conversions and calculations, real-time circuit simulations and many more. I took delivery of several cool stuff such as an Arduino UNO board and a Raspberry Pi in recent months, so this app will come in handy as well. The first Yodel-Oh! title came out in 2011 and it was a fun casual iOS title which borrowed quite a bit (in a good way) from carnival type shooting galleries. Now, developers Spinlight Studio are back at it again with the brand new YodelOh Math Mountain which is now available on the iTunes App Store. I love beach holidays, and having lived in seaside towns all my life, the beach is never far from my place of residence. This is probably why I really like the backdrop of Big Pixel Studios’ latest iOS title, Bottle Cap Blitz, which is a beautifully rendered tropical island beach.

Players take on the role of a beach barman who has too much free time on his hands (what can I say….. beach life can be pretty idyllic), and the objective of the game is to flick bottle caps to break as many number of ice cubes in under a minute. You only need one hand to play the game.

It’s that simple but one key inclusion by the development team has made this entire premise an addictive one: Game Center online leaderboards. This plus the really simple gameplay, makes it easy for players to turn on a competitive streak to climb up the charts. I know it got me hooked from the get-go and at the point of writing I’m number 80-ish in the global leaderboard.

Helping the player gain more points are combos and power ups such as frozen cherries and watermelons; these are unlocked (including the ability to chain combos) as you hit new levels. Coins earned during the course of the game can be used to unlock new bottle caps, which is pretty cool if you are an avid bottle cap sharpshooter (the game is bound to turn you into one).

Considering that I had to pry myself from playing the game in order to write this review, it’s safe to say that Bottle Cap Blitz is a case of a casual game done right, with easy to understand and addictive gameplay, competitive elements and a beautiful interface. General Electric, yup, you read that right, that large U.S-based company who has led the field of invention and innovation, has partnered up with Noise to launch a brand new iOS game that lets players discover hidden worlds of knowledge throughout major U.S cities. The game, titled GE Wonderground, looks to combine Foursquare-like elements with quiz questions and is also available online as a web-based game.

Launching in NY, SF, LA, Boston and Chicago, and hosted by  “Wonder Junkie” Jason Silva, GE’s Wonderground is a game of self-expansion designed to reveal obscure, intriguing facts about technology, science and engineering. “We think we know the world around us, but there’s always something more to discover,” said Jason Silva. “Wonderground engages the fundamental parts of our human nature that fuel science-curiosity, inquiry. Players will see what others miss. They will know interesting things they didn’t know. They will in effect, see through walls.”

Players can experience Wonderground either on their desktop or mobile iOS device. There they will be brought into immersive 360-degree panorama fact-finding missions. Sheep are such interesting animals, just as long as they are under the stewardship of a responsible shepherd, they live such cushy lives. HandyGames latest iOS title Clouds & Sheep Premium allow players to become a virtual shepherd, taking care of their flock of sheep. While the sheep just go about their business eating grass and drinking water, being a virtual shepherd turned out to be pretty interesting and fun.

The game gets players to do plenty of tasks, from forming rain clouds to water the pasture, seeding the land with grass and flowers, causing love to blossom among those in your flock (which creates new sheep) to more crazier stuff like jumping on trampolines and going through hoops or fire. It’s pretty busy work and each level is filled with a whole bunch of objectives riding above your tasks.

There’s something quite relaxing though playing the game once you’ve fallen into sync with all the task handling. Handygames hit the jackpot with this kind of casual gameplay as it is fun and rewards well. When done right, you’ll have a whole bunch of happy sheep generating happy stars for you to collect and to spend on buying cool stuff. At the end of each level, players are rated on how many happy, ambivalent and pissed (angry, not drunk) sheep that they have.

Each level happens to be themed and along with Clouds & Sheep Premium’s beautiful 2D graphics, the game’s visuals are certainly easy on the eyes and work to accentuate the gameplay.
