Supporting the new 2013 roster with all the team and driver changes, players can take their own shot at being crowned the Sprint Cup Series Champion by starting a competitive season as a rookie and racing against their favorite drivers in career mode, or race online with friends.

The game also features Inside Line Highlights – scenarios from actual NASCAR races (2011, 2012 seasons) that have been recreated from the actual race telemetry data, which allow players to recreate, relive and rewrite the most exciting NASCAR moments. Additionally, and a first for any sport based videogame, the current 2013 season is being supported by weekly downloadable Inside Line Highlights being available shortly after racing events take place. The package is made complete with commentary provided courtesy of Fox Sports’ Darrell Waltrip and Mike Joy, while the player’s crew is voiced by spotter Ty Norris and crew chief Ray Evernham.

NASCAR®: Redline™ marks the first officially licensed by NASCAR videogame to be available for mobile devices. This is the first videogame of its kind as it delivers an official NASCAR racing experience that puts players into the seat of their own personal stock car. NASCAR®: Redline™ combines touch-reaction racing action with management tools, allowing you to control the way you race. “The ants go marching one by one, hurrah, hurrah!” LOL, that’s part of a song that I sometimes sing to my daughter which had my wife going…”You’re singing about…ANTS?!“. Well those are pretty cool insects and they are even subjects of a well-received strategy game on iOS and Android devices, Ant Raid which was released back in 2011.

Developers HeroCraft have now come up with a free version of the game on Google Play. Titled Ant Raid Free, the game allows players to experience the first two episodes for free and if you have not played Ant Raid yet, this is a good opportunity to find out for yourself how fun and challenging it is to command your very own army of ants. Something big this way comes. The highly anticipated blockbuster, Pacific Rim, will make the jump to iOS and Android devices in the form of a mobile game courtesy of Reliance Games, where players take control of *bleep* (we tend to keep things PG here) robots known as Jaegers to protect cities from Kaijus, aliens that look like they are part of Godzilla’s extended family. Reliance Games, a leading international developer and publisher of mobile games, is bringing the sci-fi action-adventure Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures Pacific Rim to mobile devices. Based on the Guillermo del Toro directed film coming to theaters July 12, 2013, the Pacific Rim mobile game tasks players with protecting the world’s most famous cities from the Kaijus, monstrous aliens that have risen from the seas to destroy humanity.

Commanding a giant Jaeger robot, players can hone their skills in a story mode that will take their Jockey from rookie to ace, building up lethal combos and discovering new weapons and technology to give them an edge against the Kaijus. The folks at Spacetime Studios certainly deserve a pat on their backs. I remember playing their first MMORPG for the iPhone, Pocket Legends, which was probably the first 3D MMORPG on smartphones. The company has since released Star Legends, Dark Legends, and Arcane Legends, and when combined together have been downloaded more than 20 million times.

This has resulted in the games amassing more than 250 million play sessions! Just check out the infographic above for some mind-boggling numbers and I’ve got no doubt PC and console game makers would kill to have these numbers . According to their press release, Spacetime players also log engagement far above industry average, spending more than twice the number of hours playing Legends titles than the average gamer spends across all mobile games in a month.

The typical Spacetime player spends an average of 33.5 hours per month on Spacetime’s titles, almost 3 times as much as the average iOS player’s total monthly gameplay and four times more than Android players. iPhones players spend about 12.3 hours per month across all games while Android players spend around 8 hours per month on average according to Arbition Mobile.

Fans of ClutchPlay Games’ action-based platformer game Little Chomp (iOS, Android) have plenty to cheer about with the release of Chompwood Arcade, an update to the game that brings about a brand new continuous play mode. Little Chomp’s latest update tasks players with climbing their way up three new leaderboards where they race the clock to stay alive for the highest score in the Chompwood Kingdom.

Phew, back from a long hiatus, thanks to a particularly intensive PMP course. Anyways, back to the business of gaming. Disney Mobile Games has released an update to their smash, or should I say, splash hit Where’s My Perry?. This time along, the beloved Animal Agents from the TV Series join Agent P in 60+ new levels to help fight Dr. Doofenshmirtz and his army of Evil Objects.

MADFINGER Games, the independent mobile games developer responsible for hits such as SHADOWGUN and DEAD TRIGGER, has released a new update for its multiplayer first person action shooter, SHADOWGUN: DeadZone. Update 2.0 offers new game features which promise to extend the current borders of mobile multiplayer game progression. The game is available on both App Store and Google Play.

MADFINGER Games has again heeded to the requests of its fans. The largest update since the release of the game in November 2012 brings new maps, weapons and game content, which was sourced directly from player feedback, including, among others, the “friends” feature. “Now players can invite their friends to Zone Control mode or monitor their game stats, “said Marek Rabas, CEO at MADFINGER Games of the new “friends” feature.

Rookies can look forward to a Special Tutorial mode. The update offers optimizations, bug fixes, as well as support for new gamepads.  In addition, SHADOWGUN: DeadZone Update 2.0 incorporates Boosters (Speed, Armor, Damage, Accuracy, Invisibility), which enable players to experience an entirely new dimension of gameplay.

Sales of smartphones and tablet are outstripping those of PCs and laptops. Although there has been a huge increase in tablet users over the last year, smartphone users are now spending more time online and consuming more online data than tablet users. Interestingly around 41% of tablet users and 39% of smartphone users are duel screen users, meaning that they use their tablets and smartphones while watching TV. Both smartphone and tablet users spend a great deal of their time playing online games on these devices and overall tablets are favoured over phones for doing so.

Comparing the technologies of the current generations of mobile phones and tablets, from the point of view of processing power there is very little difference between the two. The latest generation of phones now have eight core processors, but it won’t be long before we see similar processing power in tablets. That is a huge amount of processing power, but no doubt games developers soon will find ways of making use of it.

The obvious advantage of tablets is their larger display size, but the display sizes of some of the latest Android smartphones are nearly as large as the smaller tablets. Also, while tablets have larger displays, top end smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy 4 have superior resolution, so what is lost on the roundabouts is gained on the swings. While mobile phones win in terms of convenience, tablets still hold the edge in terms of display size.

Ultimately, when choosing between a smartphone and a tablet, it comes down to user preference. Disney Mobile Games is on a roll today, first with the release of Toy Story: Smash It!, for both iOS and Android. This game takes the swipe and launch gameplay made famous by Angry Birds, and does it in 3D! Have a look at the screenshots, the game looks absolutely amazing. Players take on the role of Buzz Lightyear out to stop the evil Zurg and catch alien bandits through 60 levels of play.

Toy Story: Smash It! is available on the iTunes App Store and Google Play for 99 cents. Fans of Where’s My Perry on the other hand will be glad to know that the game will be honoring National Platypus Day (March 2nd) with an update that brings  20 new levels for Agent P and 20 new levels for Dr. Doofenshmirtz. The festivities also include special Platypus Day theming and 50% discounts on all locksmith packs that will last until March 4.
