Take the hyperviolence from MADFINGER Games‘ Samurai II, throw in some new weapons, a whole bunch of enemies inspired by Halloween and slap on a Christmas theme. Dump this all into an arena and you’ll get BloodyXmas 2010.

The game casts players as a muscle bound Santa (think Village People) defending his workshop from a horde of ghoulish creatures out to steal his presents. The control scheme is similar to that of MADFINGER’s earlier efforts, the left virtual analog stick moves Santa around the arena, while the virtual button on the right launches attacks. Armed at first with a cleaver, there are crates scattered around the arena giving Santa access to weapons such as a sledgehammer with splash damage, chain saw….and even a tractor.

You can guess that the result of this is a really bloody mess in a good, 13-and above way. The game is a matter of attrition; the number of remaining presents are carried forward from level to level and at the same time, different enemy types are introduced, increasing the difficulty. Points are accumulated as well through the levels and these are put up on online leaderboards courtesy of Apple’s Game Center.

I enjoyed the entire experience playing the game, from slicing up wheelchaired skeletons into half, to running from one end of the arena to the other in order to prevent some impish girl ghoul from getting away with one of the presents. The game features beautiful cell-shaded graphics, all the more better to convey the violence on screen, similar to that of Samurai II. In short, BloodyXmas 2010 is a fun, violent romp, and if you ask me, bloody timely too (but it’s not really in the spirit of the season.hehe). Kids, you better be good, otherwise Santa will chop you up with a cleaver.

BloodyXmas 2010 is now available on the App Store for the iPhone with a price tag of USD 0.99. Check it out here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/bloodyxmas-2010/id406944464?mt=8. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
