Soccer Rally for the iPhone feels like a Foosball game but with several noticeable differences. One, you’ve only got control over your goalie, and two, your opponent’s players are in your part of the field and you do not have any last line of defense (except for the said goalie). While this extends to your opponent as well, you might find things rather hairy especially when you are up against an AI opponent, where the passing is faster, and more accurate.

Your job is to prevent the strikers from scoring goals while passing the ball to your own set of AI controlled strikers located in the opponent’s half. The game can also be next best described as Pong, with football players in between. The game has two modes, a friendly match for a short kick-a-bout, and the Colo Cup where you take on teams from other countries in a tournament. Being a relatively simple game, choosing a country doesn’t really affect play, probably just a change in jersey colour (the effect is minuscule I don’t even notice that).

The best part about this Pong-Soccer hybrid is that it’s perfect for a 2-player game on just one iPhone. Both players take control of their respective goalies, defending and passing the ball to their AI-controlled strikers for a chance at scoring a goal. While this doesn’t really replicate the excitement found in a real Foosball game, it’s simple fun, and more so if you can get another player.
