It’s the time of the season, where almost everyone goes crazy over 22 men on a pitch, chasing after a ball. Yup, it’s the World Cup and yours truly will be supporting (as usual) the perennial underachievers, the Three Lions, England. Heck, I got in the spirit of things yesterday and bought a pair of Adidas slippers with the World Cup theme! It seems that the App Store is no exception to the fever as well, as the number of apps related to the World Cup have increased as well. Here are just several of the notable ones:

EA 2010 FIFA World Cup

This is the only official World Cup game on the iPhone & iPod Touch. EA’s typical World Cup release based on the excellent FIFA 10, the game features an unprecedented 105 international teams, even those that didn’t qualify. The game also captures the sights and sounds from 10 of the stadiums and locations of the host country, South Africa. Check out the game over here.

ESPN 2010 FIFA World Cup

This summer, ESPN’s 2010 FIFA World Cup app will bring live scores, gamecast, scoring and news alerts and live audio streams from the competition that will see 32 national teams compete for the world’s prestigious, the World Cup! The app also features exclusive US and global news and analysis from ESPN and ESPNSoccerNet. It also includes extensive profiles of all 32 teams, players, tournament history and of course the full schedule! Click here to download this free app.

iVuzela

Vuvuzela horns are noise makers normally associated with the stadiums of Africa. While you may not have the chance to own the real thing, the iVuzela app will at least have a virtual one and in the colours of the particular country that you support! To use this app, you simply need to blow at the microphone on the iPhone. Check it out over here.
