Excited over Battlefield Bad Company 2? I know I am and so are the folks over at Official Xbox Magazine, Playstation: The Official Magazine and Game Informer as well. Check out the following gameplay trailer, highlighting some really great kills along with early review scores from the above mentioned publications.

I was watching an ad on TV for the iPhone and it mentioned that there’s an app for just about anything. I’m not too sure about that, but if you are into craft, you wouldn’t be short of company.
As one of the top online craft destinations, Disney’s FamilyFun.com is now offering its vast collection of great craft ideas on the go with a new mobile app for the iPhone called Craft Finder: Great Crafts from Disney FamilyFun.
Available now from App Store, Craft Finder helps moms and dads or just about anyone interested in craft to search for ideas for any holiday or occasion. Helping them choose from an endless combination of Craft Finder results are filters such as age, time and occasion.
Other features include a Craft Box, for saving favourite crafts in the “Planning” Tab, the ability to automatically save the last step completed in the “Doing” Tab and keeping a history of crafts that you’ve made in the “Done” Tab.
Craft Finder features craft details and step-by-step guides in addition to a shopping list feature to take to your local craft store for all your supplies. Finally, you get to share your crafts with friends and family on Facebook, Twitter and via e-mail.
Craft Finder is now available free of charge on App Store, click here to download the app on iTunes.
Disney Studios continues to surprise me with their line-up of iPhone apps. From independent IPs to really good movie tie-ins and now a Productivity app, I do hope people take notice of their efforts.
Alec Mason is probably the only video game character I know who can run at full speed while wielding a sledgehammer. I mean, that thing has got to be heavy since it makes Alec a one man demolition army. Some may argue that the lower gravity on Mars might have something to do with that, but man, can that Red Faction guy run. Run Alec Run!
Bayonetta on the other hand comes armed, and may I say, legged to the tilt with not one, not two, but four pistols, called the Scarborough Fair. Incidentally, several years before Bayonetta, I used to develop CRM software and I often used the name “Scarborough Fair” as a code name of sorts for lead sources.
If you were to take a look at the genre on the Bayonetta cover, you’ll find the game listed as “Climax Action“… Maybe it has to do with all the noise that witch makes when she’s beating the heck out of angels.
Isaac Clarke has probably the most outrageous outfit among the three video game characters featured here. He kinda reminds me of the superhero/supervillain Penance from Marvel Comics. Anyways, his Plasma Cutter has the distinction of being your best friend in Dead Space. It’s upgradeable and despite the plethora of other weapons, you can finish the game using that weapon alone (that’s why the game has a trophy for that).
All three games figure heavily on my playlist but there’s more emphasis on Red Faction. I don’t know but demolishing buildings and whacking on-screen enemies with a sledgehammer is just tops in my book.
With Battlefield Bad Company 2’s launch just around the corner, you’ll find ramped up coverage of the game on Nine Over Ten 9/10. Today we’ll take a look at how the game is like for the PC, with Producer Anders Gyllenberg giving an overview of the PC version in a walkthrough trailer.
Among the features found on the PC version, that are not found in the console versions are PC-specific graphical enhancement options (including Direct X11 soft shadows support), keyboard/mouse centric server selection tools and an integrated friend system which allows you to find and squad up with your friends on the fly.
Play-Asia is currently selling the Tony Hawk: Ride (with Skateboard) bundle for the Sony PS3 for a discounted price of USD 49. This is a whopping USD 80 discount from the original price of USD 129.90.
According to the product description, the Skateboard is a revolutionary motion sensing skateboard controller that allows players to physically control the action by performing movements and gestures that translate into amazing tricks in the game.
The game’s intuitive controls and multiple difficulty levels make it easy to pick up and play, making this an excellent party game for people of various ages and skill levels.
Interested? Even with shipping (Fedex – USD 25) it still costs less to order from Play-Asia when compared to Amazon where it is selling for a discounted price of USD 99. Click here for details.
Here’s a bunch of interesting facts regarding the Battlefield Bad Company 2 demo and the game hasn’t even shipped yet!
It has hit the 3.5 million download mark
500 million kills
100 million vehicle kills
15 million knife kills
30 million destroyed vehicles
10 million head shots
25 million revives
It’s utterly amazing and if you have not downloaded the demo yet, you have 3 more days to do so before the 25th of February. After that, DICE servers will be shutdown in anticipation for the game launch on the 2nd of March!
Also, in order to get a leg up on the game, the Battlefield Ultimate Prestige site is now accepting new recruits and everyone regardless of skill level can now access. Originally locked by a unique skill gate for only experienced MW2/BF players, the Ultimate Prestige site is a tactical field manual that contains insider vehicle, weapon, and map information, as well as strategies to hit the ground running on Day 1.
I noted that in my first playthrough of Alice in Wonderland that if you take Castlevania, throw out the enemies, leave the graphics alone and ramp up the puzzle elements, you’ll essentially get the game and that it wouldn’t be a bad thing. In fact, Alice in Wonderland is probably one of the best 2D platform puzzle (as opposed to 2D platform action) games on the iPhone/iPod touch.
The full game was released recently and I had first dibs before it was publicly available on App Store. The game features more of everything from the earlier released demo, including a full complement of levels and a whole bunch of stuff to collect.
More importantly, the subsequent levels show a gradual increase in difficulty and the puzzles more and more intricate with plenty of interaction with the environment surrounding Alice, the player character. Helping her out are new team mates and the first new team mate after your encounter with the White Rabbit would be the Cheshire Cat.
The Cat has the ability to make stuff disappear and thankfully the game marks out items that can be affected by the White Rabbit or the Cheshire Cat.
It’s really suprising to see a platformer that treats entire levels like big puzzles and while there are no enemies, there are death traps like pools of waters and moving pillars and platforms of thorns. It’s a wise design decision to have the ability to zoom in and out on a level to get an idea where to make your next move, making strategy a part of this platform puzzler as well.
I highly recommend Alice in Wonderland for the iPhone. The game is now available on App Store for just USD 4.99, click here to download.
To sum it up: I bought a lot. Well, I consider 3 to be a big number and even during my Nintendo DS days, buying 3 games in a single month is considered a stretch. But in any case, I’m a cheapskate when it comes to buying games, so guess how much I paid for 2 new games and 1 secondhand one?
About USD 60! I bought a brand new copy of Red Faction Guerrilla at Play-Asia for just USD 19.90 while a brand new Bayonetta cost me USD 27 after a heavy rebate IN ADDITION to a 10% discount at SonyStyle.
The secondhand game was a copy of Mercenaries 2, for just USD 15. With so many games, do you think it’s better to play them one by one or to alternate between the games?
It would seem that the Batman: Gotham Knight animated anthology spawned a spiritual successor in the form of Halo Legends. The similarities are hard to deny, a bunch of animated shorts done by the best in the business and the stories revolve around a central theme, and this time it’s the Master Chief and the Halo universe.
Halo Legends has 7 animated shorts, compared to 6 in Gotham Knight, and my favourite one would be the Toei Studio creation (and Dragonball Z inspired) Odd One Out. It’s a pretty crazy/funny mess, which fortunately unlike the rest of the shorts, is non-canon.
My second favourite would be the last short “The Package”. Done fully in CGI by Casio Entertainment, it wouldn’t give Advent Children a run for its money, but it’s still a pretty sight with an all-action plot. The Japanese water colour inspired “The Duel” can be a pretty tedious affair to those not accustomed to animation being a higher medium of art.
The other stories are pretty good themselves. Halo fans who are interested in the Forerunner backstory would be delighted with the “Origins” short, while Homecoming is a recollection of a Spartan’s training program, her escape, and her subsequent return with the knowledge that the program IS home.
Overall, Halo Legends is a keeper, and it does for Halo what Gotham Knight did for the Dark Knight. I highly recommend this anthology. Halo Legends will be going on sale on Play-Asia on the 26th of February. Click here for the Blu-ray version, or here for the DVD version.
